Paid sick and carer's leave is one combined entitlement, also called personal/carer's leave. Full-time employees generally receive 10 days each year. Part-time employees receive a pro-rata amount based on their ordinary hours of work.
For part-time work, this calculator multiplies your ordinary weekly hours by two to estimate the annual entitlement in hours. This is an annual minimum estimate, not a live payroll balance.
Medical Certificate Requirements
There is no national rule that automatically gives every employee one evidence-free sick day. An employer can request evidence for one day or less, and awards, agreements, contracts and workplace policies may contain additional requirements.
A medical certificate or statutory declaration can be acceptable evidence. The evidence needs to satisfy a reasonable person that the leave was taken for a permitted reason.
